A Living Will is also known as an Advance Decision, an Advance Directive or a Directive to Physicians, an Advance Decision to Refuse Treatment, and an ADRT.

A document is prepared where you say what medical care and treatment you wish to receive and appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf. People state their wishes for end-of-life medical care in the event that they become unable to communicate their decisions.

A Living Will relates to medical treatment and contains a decision a person has made to decline a specific type of treatment in the future.

Advance Statement

An Advance Statement sometimes known as a Letter of Wishes or Statement of Wishes, is a general statement about anything that is important to a person relating to their future treatment and wellbeing. It can be used to express preferences for care or to describe any beliefs or values that have caused the decisions to be made.

An Advance Statement contains your preferences, wishes, beliefs and values as to your future care, and can include any information you wish to say about your health or care.
