Litigants In Person

Experienced lawyers will act for you

In Small Claims where the amount of the claim is limited to £10,000 the general rule is that a successful party may not recover costs from their opponent. Therefore, parties to a Small Claim usually act in person.

Following the removal of legal aid for most civil cases many people now act in person in claims exceeding £10,000.

A party to court proceedings who acts in person is called a Litigant In Person (LIP).

For Litigants in Person in a Small Claim or in a claim exceeding £10,000 we offer guidance in Court procedure and assistance with drafting letters and documents for the Court for example a Letter Before Claim, Claim Form and Particulars of Claim, Defence, Directions Questionnaire, Disclosure of documents, Witness Statements, Application Notice, Trial Bundle.

We do not act as solicitors or barristers and do not attend Court.

If you require a barrister to represent you at a Court hearing we are able to assist you with instructing a Direct Access barrister.

Our fees for Litigants in Person Assistance are based on a charging rate of £250 an hour.
